The US military continues to prioritize the delivery of humanitarian aid to relieve the suffering of civilians affected by the ongoing crisis in Gaza, while Iran's support for Hamas has only contributed to Gazans' suffering.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) and the Royal Jordanian Air Force on Sunday (April 28) conducted a joint operation to airdrop food and essential supplies into northern Gaza.

The combined joint operation included four US Air Force C-130 aircraft, which dropped over 25,000 Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) and more than 13,080 meal equivalents of Jordanian food supplies, according to CENTCOM.

To date, the United States has dropped nearly 1,110 tons of life-saving humanitarian assistance to Gaza civilians, it said.

The success of the airdrops stems in part from Gazans' compliance with the delivery procedures put in place by US military personnel who are delivering the aid and ensuring the safety of civilians receiving it.

Last week, US lawmakers agreed on a massive foreign aid package, including $9 billion for humanitarian assistance in Gaza and other places.

US President Joe Biden confirmed April 24 that $1 billion will go towards additional humanitarian aid in Gaza immediately.

"We're going to immediately secure that aid and surge it -- surge it, including food, medical supplies, clean water," he said. "And Israel must make sure all this aid reaches the Palestinians in Gaza without delay."

Meanwhile, US officials estimate that Iran provides Hamas tens of millions of dollars a year.

Secret letters uncovered by Israeli forces revealed that the Iranian regime has provided at least $222 million to Hamas between 2014 and 2020, The Times reported April 11.

"Iran has funded, armed, trained and provided intelligence to Hamas for decades," Matthew Levitt wrote for the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

"Though Hamas has multiple income streams, funding from Iran has been especially important for the group's military and terrorist structures," he said in November 2023.

Iran's support for Hamas in part enabled the terrorist group to carry out the October 7 attack on Israel, which triggered the current suffering and regional unrest.

The Palestinian people want peace. We want to live in peace. Period. We have had enough of wars. Our situation is very dire under these wars. This is cruel.
