Combined Task Force 150 (CTF 150) is a naval coalition task force operating under the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF).

The task force is headquartered at US Naval Forces Central Command (USNAVCENT) in Bahrain.

The primary mission of CTF 150 is to maintain maritime security in the Middle East's maritime domain.

While focusing on counterterrorism, maritime security and counter-trafficking operations throughout the area.

Operating within a vast area that includes the Gulf of Aden, Red Sea, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea, ensuring freedom of navigation and stability in these waters.

Historical significance and recent leadership

During Operation Desert Storm, CTF 150 was acknowledged for its role in maritime interception operations.

Its tactical successes played a significant role in safeguarding key sea lanes and maintaining maritime security in contested areas.

In August 2025, the Royal Saudi Navy assumed command of CTF 150 from the Royal New Zealand Navy during a change of command ceremony.

The ceremony was presided over by US Navy Vice Adm. George Wikoff, commander of Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), continuing the task force's legacy of excellence.

Pakistan has also played a significant role in the success of CTF 150 and has commanded the task force on several occasions.

Operations and collaborations

CTF 150's mandate indirectly intersects with Houthi activities in Yemen, as their presence and actions often spill over into the Gulf of Aden, affecting maritime security.

Houthi actions, such as using drones, attacking ships or blocking maritime access, increase regional instability.

In coordination with other CMF Combined Task Forces, CTF 150's efforts help mitigate such risks and support freedom of navigation in the Gulf of Aden.

In combating Somali piracy, CTF 150 works in conjunction with other international organizations and coalitions, such as EU NAVFOR Operation Atalanta and NATO forces.

It also collaborates with the adjacent CMF task force, CTF 151, which focuses more intensively on combating piracy.

The primary mission of CTF 150 is countering terrorism and deterring illicit activities, such as arms smuggling, human trafficking and narcotics movement.

CTF 150 is part of a larger CMF organization, including personnel and equipment from various nations committed to ensuring safety and security in international waters.

The task force works with regional allies and coalition partners to enhance interoperability and conduct coordinated operations, ensuring a united front against threats to security.

Combined Task Force 150 plays a crucial role in maintaining maritime security in the Middle East.

Through its collaborative efforts and focus on counterterrorism and counter-trafficking operations, CTF 150 ensures the safety and stability of essential sea lanes.
