The C-130J Super Hercules is the most advanced version ever designed of the workhorse aircraft, with comprehensive updates and state-of-the-art features that significantly enhance its operational capabilities.

The C-130 has been used in various iterations for combat airlift for more than half a century.

The C-130 airframe has been produced in more than 70 variants, including the newest "J" model. Altogether, more than 2,500 C-130s have been built.

This latest iteration of the aircraft entered service with the US Air Force in 1999 and quickly proved itself through operational deployments.

More than 500 "J" models have been produced, and it is the only model of the C-130 in production.

Equipped for ACE

The formidable four-engine turboprop transport aircraft has Allison AE 2100D3 engines, which deliver superior performance -- even in austere and challenging conditions -- and power takeoffs from and landings on austere, remote or tight locations.

The engines upgrade the C-130J's ability to operate from short, unprepared airstrips, ensuring rapid deployment and support for combat and humanitarian missions alike.

That versatility lets it adeptly integrate into the US Air Force's Agile Combat Employment (ACE), which emphasizes flexibility, speed and resilience.

The concept focuses on the rapid deployment, sustenance and repositioning of aircraft and personnel in dynamic and contested environments, shifting operations from large, centralized physical infrastructure to smaller, dispersed sites or cluster bases.

In addition to its robust engines, the C-130J Super Hercules features a modern glass cockpit, a significant upgrade from its predecessors.

The cockpit has liquid crystal displays that provide superior flight control and navigation systems.

This advancement not only improves the situational awareness of the crew but enhances the aircraft's overall performance, enabling a longer range, better cruise ceiling, shorter time to climb and reduced airfield requirements.

High capacity

The C-130J's capabilities extend beyond its flight characteristics.

The aircraft boasts a large cargo bay with a total usable volume of more than 418 cubic meters. This expansive space can accommodate loads exceeding 16,800kg, making it one of the most versatile transport aircraft in the US Air Force's inventory.

The cargo bay is designed to carry a variety of payloads, ranging from pallets to troops and armored vehicles.

This versatility ensures that the C-130J can support diverse mission requirements, from troop transport and cargo airlift to medical evacuation and disaster relief.

The combination of powerful engines, advanced avionics and a spacious cargo bay makes the C-130J Super Hercules an asset to the US Air Force's ACE concept.
