The KC-46A Pegasus aerial refueler and transport aircraft will be showcased at the upcoming Dubai Airshow (November 17–21), underscoring its pivotal role in the United States Air Force’s refueling and logistics operations.

A cornerstone of the Air Force’s modernization strategy, procurement plans call for 179 KC-46A aircraft by 2027.

Built on a wide-body, low-wing monoplane design, the Pegasus features two engines producing more than 28,100 kilograms of thrust each and a glass cockpit with three LCD displays for maximum visibility.

Its Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) improves handling and disengages automatically when pilots assume manual control.

With a fuel capacity of 96,297 kilograms and a cargo capability of 29,484 kilograms, the KC-46A extends the operational range of fighter and bomber aircraft through midair refueling while simultaneously transporting personnel and supplies.

This dual role integrates two critical Air Force missions, refueling and transport, into one versatile aircraft.

The Pegasus can operate with as few as three crew members: two pilots and a boom operator responsible for precision refueling.

The boom operator’s station, located behind the flight deck, includes airline-style seating, bunks, a galley, and a lavatory for long missions.

FAA-certified, the KC-46A can also transport 58 passengers or 114 in contingency operations.

Equipped with Link-16 and tactical data link systems, it serves as a communications node within the Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS), coordinating refueling operations and mission planning.

Strength and partnership at the Dubai Airshow

At the Dubai Airshow, the KC-46A will be one of the centerpiece displays underscoring US Air Force reach and readiness.

Combining aerial refueling, cargo transport, aeromedical evacuation, and advanced connectivity, it sends a clear message to partners in the Middle East that the United States can project sustained airpower anywhere in the world.

Designed to replace the aging KC-135 Stratotanker, the Pegasus brings measurable improvements -- including a 212,000-pound fuel capacity, fly-by-wire refueling boom, and both boom and probe-and-drogue refueling options.

These features make it a vital force multiplier, allowing coalition aircraft to remain on station longer and respond quickly to crises.

The KC-46A’s presence in Dubai represents more than hardware.

It highlights interoperability with partner nations, logistics collaboration, and global mission capability.

The Pegasus fleet has already offloaded millions of pounds of fuel worldwide, proving its reliability and adaptability in diverse operations.

For regional partners, the Pegasus demonstrates operational utility and industrial cooperation.

Beyond its advanced design, it represents shared efforts in maintenance, logistics, and readiness -- strengthening security and partnership across the region.

At the Dubai Airshow, the KC-46A Pegasus stands as both a technological achievement and a strategic symbol of enduring US airpower.
